The Agro-Economic Research Centre for the States of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh was established at the Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur (M.P.) in 1st April 1965 at by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi. The centre has completed 60 glorious years of its journey marked by both achievements and challenges. The Centre has emerged as a strong policy feedback Centre of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi during these years. The focus of the research efforts in the initial stage was on comprehensive village surveys and resurveys in order to understand the process and direction of change at village level. Subsequently, the emphasis of research has shifted to problems oriented and impact studies of different ongoing and completed development projects. The Centre has by now completed 122 problems oriented and impact studies, 25 village surveys and 3 village resurveys. The Centre has brought remarkable improvements in every aspect of research including methodological base of the studies. The studies have come out with useful findings and policy implications for agriculture and rural development particularly for the States of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
